A Branch Of The Green Oak Tree
It was with genuine sadness I read of the passing of Anne. I was never fortunate enough to meet the lady personally, but have become acquainted with her son Rick through our joint love of our football team, Greenock Morton. When I met Rick for the first time several years ago, he told me the story of how he came to be a Morton supporter, and the pride he had in his mum, and her heritage were clear to see. We are a small knit family at our wee club, and I just wanted to pass by and say that we are claiming Anne as one of our own, and regardless of her actual birth place, we acknowledge the passing of a branch of the Green Oak tree.
Here's to the Green Oak, that stands upon the square
And here's to it's roots, that still lie slumbering there,
And here's to it's townsfolk, wherever they may be,
For I'm proud to say I'm a branch, of the Green Oak Tree
Anne, may your new life bring you eternal happiness, and rest easy in the knowledge that you have a son you should be rightly proud of - another strong branch of that same tree.
