The Canadiens and the Penguins -- a friendly rivalry

I have had the absolute privilege to know Guy since I was a student at Brock University. Working with him in Communications Services I got to witness the kind of person he was, and it was safe to say, I liked him instantly. Guy wore his concern on his face and you could see how passionately he cared about his job and the quality of work being done for the university. Being French, Guy and I would always joke around about accents and always have playful back and forth banter speaking broken English and Quebecois. I have fond memories of us talking about the narrated cartoon "The Sweater" where a young boy received a Toronto jersey instead of a Montreal jersey and everything that happened thereafter. We would joke of Maurice Richard and his "hair glue" as was talked about in this film. I always had the greatest respect for Guy. No one could ever say about thing about him and that endeared him to everybody. We would joke, tell stories and just live life in as much happiness as we could. During the NHL playoffs a few years back, we had a friendly wager going on. The Penguins were playing the Canadiens and if either of our teams won, we'd be forced to wear the other team's jersey in full humiliation to be photographed. Needless to say, the Penguins lost in glorious style and I happily donned his Montreal jersey for some photos. Guy was even good enough to bring in his garden gnome (also wearing full Montreal gear). It was all in good fun, and I was so happy to do it. To add a little salt to the wound, Guy printed one of those photos and proudly placed it on our public bulletin board for the whole world to see. I think it stayed up there for a full year, and I caught much teasing about it... but it was worth it. Guy always made me smile. I always enjoyed our conversations and wish I could have spent more time with him. I have always considered him the perfect role model for decency and goodness. He is the kind of man I would like to be. I love my friend... and will miss you.
