Obituary for Mary Connie Maiers

Survivors include her husband, Bernie; two daughters: Kim (Rob) Brimeyer of Holy Cross, IA and Tammy (Matt) Nauman of Cascade, IA; two sons: Scott (Jenny) Maiers of Iowa City, IA and Kenny Maiers of Holy Cross, IA; her mother, Mrs. Stella Gaul of Dyersville, IA; four grandchildren: Carson Nauman, Morgan Brimeyer, Braden and Alyssa Maiers; a stepgrandson, Cody Brimeyer; two brothers: David (Carol) Gaul of Guttenberg, IA and Donald Gaul of Luxemburg, IA; two sisters: Marlene Koppes of Cascade, IA and Verna (Ray) Greenwood of Farley, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Katie (Roger) Steffen of Luxemburg, IA, Annie (Dave) Krapfl and Rosie (Greg) Helle of Edgewood, IA, Maggie (Vernon) Bockenstedt of Earlville, IA, Carol Lattner and Dave (Diane) Maiers of Dubuque, IA and Shirley Maiers of Sherrill, IA. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Gaul, and a brother-in-law, Joe Maiers. Connie was born on March 31, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Stella (Dolan) Gaul. She graduated in 1966 from Leo High School in Holy Cross and Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1968. She married Bernard Maiers on July 20, 1968 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa. She was employed at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque from 1968 – 1978 and the Western Dubuque School from 1978 – 1996. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and its Rosary Society, and was an EMT with the Holy Cross volunter ambulance service for 13 years. Her greatest joys in life were her husband of 36 years, their children and grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque and their volunteers, Pat, Mary and Helen, and to Brother Stephen Markham for his unyielding support.
