Francis Joseph Germann
FRANCIS JOSEPH GERMANN

September 1922 - May 2012
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frank Germann announce that he passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Friday, May 25th, surrounded by his family. Born in Qu’Appelle, Frank moved to Wilcox to attend Notre Dame College at the age of 13, and stayed for 72 years.
Frank left Notre Dame briefly between the years 1955–1957 to attend St. Francis Xavier University. There he completed his Bachelor of Education and Masters of Arts degrees, and pioneered the St. FX football program. Upon his return, Frank - who affectionately became known as Mr. Notre Dame - held positions as Teacher, Principal, Registrar, Alumni Director and Athletic Coach of hockey, football, baseball and lacrosse teams. Frank was also a vital part of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association in the 1960's and 1970's serving as President, Past President and Referee in Chief. He was instrumental in implementing many of the officiating and coaching programs that still exist today in the Saskatchewan hockey and Hockey Canada guidelines.
He has been recognized on many occasions for his contributions to the community – The Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, the Canadian Decoration, the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal, the Notre Dame Humanitarian Award and Medal of Honor. As an accomplished athlete, coach and volunteer at Notre Dame and also within the SHA, Frank has been inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame and Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame as a builder and a volunteer.
Frank spent the last few years of his life at the Parkland Place Care Home in Melfort, SK. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years – Marjorie (‘02), and three of their ten children: Vince (‘10), Leo (‘77) and Regina (‘99). He leaves behind Vicki (Dale), Patricia, Barbara, Angela, Anita, Frank Jr. and Jim, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his sister Frankie Oberhoffner and many nieces and nephews.
A Prayer Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will take place at St. Augustine’s R.C.
