Obituary for Marjorie Ella Walters (Martin)

Marjorie Ella Walters (Martin)
Margie passed away peacefully at Country Meadows Village in Woodburn, OR
She was born nearly 92 years ago in Walla Walla, WA to Louella and Earl Martin. The family moved to Athena, OR where Margie and her two sisters spent their childhood.

In 1935, when she was just 15, Margie married the love of her life Rudy Walters.
These were Depression years and the young couple worked hard to make ends meet.
They took in boarders and for a number of years Rudy was Athena’s police officer.
In 1946 they bought Foley Lakes in The Dalles, OR, developing the property’s 220 acres, including 24 acres of spring- fed lakes into a trailer park that eventually housed 100 families. By now the births of a son and a daughter, Ron and Judy had completed
their family.

After selling Foley Lakes they moved to Woodburn, OR in 1970, buying the green house that became a hallmark on HWY 99E. What began as a garage sale became an ongoing enterprise for Margie and Rudy until they purchased a ranch just south of town.

In 1972 Margie earned her real estate license and joined George Scott Realty, retiring nearly three decades later from Coldwell Banker. Year after year, she had achieved more than a million dollars in sales in Senior Estates, earning the trust of generations of buyers and sellers alike by putting their long term interests above short-term sales. She sincerely cared about her clients, serving them with honesty and integrity.

In 1975, Margie and Rudy moved to Senior Estates. Adjoining the golf course, their backyard was filled with flowers, birds and delicious ground cherries. After Rudy passed away in 2000, Izzy, a Lhasa Apso kept Margie company. Margie and Rudy were married 66 years.

Margie is survived by her sister Dorothy Towslee of Walla Walla, WA; son Ron Walters of Vancouver, WA; daughter Judy Chastek of Maumelle, AR.; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

The family is grateful for the tender care provided by the hospice staff at Country Meadows Village.
