Obituary for Edmund G. Foerster

Mr. Edmund G. Foerster, 85, Crawfordsville, passed away at 4:50 AM on Friday, February 10, at the Regency Place, Lafayette. He was born October 3, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, to Hugo August and Ella Clara (Hillman) Foerster. He married Helen Joan "Jo" Hauck, November 25, 1945, in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Crawfordsville. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2000 .

Mr Foerster retired from Ingress Plastene in October 1988 after 42 years. He started in the warehouse and worked his way up retiring as a Manager. He was a 1945 graduate of Crawfordsville High School, where he had been the State Heavyweight Wrestling Champion in 1944 and 1945; having gone undefeated in both seasons and being named the "Most Outstanding Wrestler" in the 1944 State Meet. He had served in the Army Air Corps from June 1945 until October 1946; first serving as a file clerk at Camp Chaffee, Ft. Smith Arkansas, and later serving with the Military Police at Camp Maxey, Paris, Texas and finishing his short military career at Ft. Crockett, Galveston, Texas. He was actively involved and served as the Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop #326 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church from 1958 until 1970. In his free time he enjoyed doing woodworking; making clock cases, dining tables, beds, cedar chests, and various other pieces of furniture. He also loved fishing, especially his annual trips to Canada with his buddies.

He is survived by his children: Jeanne (Dennis) Hauck, Crawfordsville; Susan (Jeff) Fontaine, New Port Richey, Florida; Mary Myers, Old Town, Florida; Mike (Cyn) Foerster, Newnan, Georgia; Tim (Kathy) Foerster, Waveland; and Ed Foerster, New Market. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Liz Kahler; his parents; and his sister, Hildegard "Honey" Foerster.

A Memorial service following cremation will be held Saturday, February 18, at 1:00 PM at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with Father David Buckles officiating. An interment service will follow the memorial service at Calvary Cemetery, Crawfordsville. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
