Obituary for Amelia Mary Carmella Vallecorsa

LITTLE FALLS- Amelia Mary Carmella "Mame" (D'Arcangelis) Vallecorsa, 81, a longtime Little Falls resident, passed away on Friday evening, May 18, 2007 in Folts Homes, Herkimer, comforted by knowing her loving family was by her side. She was born on July 22, 1925 in Fort Plain, daughter of the late Ore and Caterina (Lupo) D'Arcangelis and was educated in Fort Plain schools. She graduated from Fort Plain High School, Class of 1943 as salutatorian and attended MVCC as an English Literature Major. On May 4, 1947, Amelia exchanged wedding vows with Gene Vallecorsa at St. James Church in Fort Plain. The couple enjoyed a devoted union of 51 years until the passing of Mr. Vallecorsa on November 20, 1998. Amelia and Gene were steadfast, loyal and devoted to one another. They were both deeply committed to their children and the joys and responsibilities of family life. Amelia enjoyed the ballet and opera in her spare time, as well as had a love of the movies and reading. Her loved ones affectionately remember her as the family "advisor". She was the matriarch of the Vallecorsa family and the keeper of endless memories. Amelia based her life on the solid and inspirational foundation of her family and friends. She was imbued with a strong sense of honor, unshakable integrity and selfless commitment to those around her. She especially enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and skiing. She enjoyed the arts and attending classes to improve on her talents. Amelia will be remembered by all who knew her as one who was dignified in both appearance and character. Survivors include her beloved family with whom she held close to her heart; her children: Marcia Coffin and husband Roy of Herkimer, Dr. David Vallecorsa and wife Nancy of Latham, and Janice Sallitt and husband Mark of Ellicott City, MD; her grandchildren: Vicki Judd and husband James, Gregory Vallecorsa, Jillian Vallecorsa, Erica Vallecorsa, Jonathan Vallecorsa, Daniel Sallitt, Alison Amelia Sallitt and Jason Gino Sallitt; two great grandchildren: Ava Amelia Judd and Deacon Judd; three brothers: Arthur D'Arcangelis and wife Millie of Fort Plain, Richard "Deco" D'Arcangelis and wife Betty of Bridgeton, MO, and Thomas "Bino" D'Arcangelis of Manahawken, NJ; a sister: Angelina "Angie" Morra and husband Dr. Anthony Morra of Latham; in-laws: Tony Vallecorsa of Las Vegas, NV; Caroline, Olga and Rita D'Arcangelis, and former sister-in-law: Stella Vallecorsa; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Amelia was predeceased by her son: Lawrence Gene Vallecorsa; by her grandson: Roy "Skippy" Coffin Jr.; by five brothers: Chauncy "Chance", Lugino "Lodge", Carlo, Sam and Pat D'Arcangelis; and she was also predeceased by her sister: Dora D'Arcangelis. The family will be present in the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St ., Little Falls, to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 21, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. Mrs. Vallecorsa's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Wednesday, May 22, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls, where The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Funeral procession will follow to Fort Plain Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
