Donald L.  Metzger
Donald Lee Metzger, age 71, of Tuscarawas, died early Friday morning November 21, 2008, in Sunnyslope Nursing Home at Bowerston.A son of the late Clarence and Belva (Reichman) Metzger, Don was born on December 23, 1936 at Tuscarawas.In May of 1960, Don entered in to the United States Army and dutifully served his country prior to his discharge in 1962.On November 20, 1970, Don married the former Patricia Wright Quillen and together the couple shared more than 37 years of marriage prior to her passing on September 17, 2008.For more than 38 years, Don shared his time as an employee of U.S. Concrete and the Superior Clay Company both of Uhrichsville. Prior to his retirement, in August of 2000, Don worked for the Amko Service Company at Dover.Following his retirement, Don could be found throughout the day taking numerous walks through the Village of Tuscarawas with his beloved Jack-Russell Terrier, Sniper. Don was a member of the Uhrichsville Eagles as well as the Tuscarawas Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was best known for his years of work during the Saturday Night Steak Fry's.Don is survived by a family that includes two sisters, Lois Ickes of Tuscarawas and Betty Tharp of Uhrichsville; five step-children, Carol (Richard) Haas of Kent, Jerry (Susan) Quillen of Dover, Susie (Terry) Gray of Chippewa Lake, Nancy Quillen of New Philadelphia, and Curt (Melanie) Quillen of Tuscarawas.Seven step-grandchildren, Jessica Gray, Joshua Quillen, Zachary Quillen, Kimberly Quillen, and Adam Quillen, Theresa Benson and Dennis Gray; and one step-great-grandchild, Jayden Nicholson completes the family.In addition to his parents and wife, Don is preceded in death by three brothers, William Metzger, Clarence Metzger, and Carl Metzger; and 4 sisters Lucy Phillips, Agnes Selzer, Gladys Parrish, and Doris Belknap.The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, 2008, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Don's life will be led by Pastor Blanche Tyree on Monday, November 24, 2008, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home's chapel. Burial will follow in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery at Tuscarawas with the Tuscarawas Post of the VFW rendering military honors.The Metzger family requests contributions in Don's name be made to either St. James Lutheran Church, P.O.
