Obituary for Dennis Sylvester Sitten

Dennis Sylvester  Sitten
Mr. Dennis Sylvester Sitten, age 85, 28 Rosemont Drive, Rome, passed away Friday morning, January 20, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Sitten was born in Silver Creek, GA on April 23, 1926, son of the late J. S. Sitten and the late Arleva Sisson Sitten. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Adell Tucker and Gladys White, by 3 brothers, J. P. Sitten, Otis Sitten, and Willard Sitten, by 6 half-sisters, and by 2 half brothers. A life-long resident of Floyd County, Mr. Sitten was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the 70th Infantry Division, the “Trailblazers”, in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star, which was awarded by Congressional Resolution many years following his service. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Bekaert for a number of years. Mr. Sitten was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindale where he served as an Usher for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #136 in Lindale and the Lindale Lodge #455 F. & A. M.

Survivors include his wife, the former Doris Gober, to whom he was married on July 5, 1948; a daughter, Ms. Joan Sitten Salomone, Rome; a son, Rick Sitten, and his wife, Kathy, Decatur; 5 grandchildren, Chris and Brett Salomone, both of Marietta, and Chase, Chelsea, and Chad Sitten, all of Decatur; 2 brothers, Hubert Sitten, Lindale, and Jerry Sitten, Rome; many nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with his Pastor, the Rev. Tim Burnham and the Rev. George Nix officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard extending military honors. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.
