Obituary for Mary J. Shea (Gormley)

Mary J. (Gormley) Shea, 89, of East Hartford, passed away on Saturday, (November 12, 2011) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on February 12, 1922, a daughter of the late John F. and Mary E. (Goggin) Gormley, she had been a long-time resident of Hartford prior to moving to East Hartford 22 years ago. Mary was a proud U.S. Army veteran during World War II and was a charter member of Women in Military Service for America in Washington, D.C. Mary was employed by the City of Hartford - Board of Education, and retired form her job after over 20 years of dedicated service. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by three brothers, John Gormley, David Gormley, and Raymond Gormley. Mary is survived by her four children, daughter, Ondean M. Shea and her son, Derrick Jackson, of East Hartford with whom she made her home; son, Gary J. Shea and his wife, Kathleen, of Mechanicsville, VA; daughter, Deborah Alexson and her husband, Ralph, of East Hartford; and daughter, Jonnette T. Shea of Apopka, FL. She also leaves a cousin, Angela Lemire of Tolland; eight additional special grandchildren; five adored great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
